Another out of the way coffee shop that is bringing back what a coffee shop should be like. Mam Boss Cafe is situated in Cabaguio at the back of the Center for Asian Culinary Studies. Since Mam Boss is inside a compound, it immediately separates you from the city and seems to embrace you in a serene cocoon filled with the scent of coffee and trees.
Mam Boss is definitely a small place and is kind of cramped but if you open the Bay doors leading to the outside areas, that’s when it takes on a different ambiance. Now don’t get me wrong, the place’s small size adds to its coziness which is great. Since the tables and chairs are pretty much squeezed in together, you can actually start a conversation with the people next to you. This is something that is missing in the commercial coffee shops where snobs abound.
I especially love the antiques lining the wall as art pieces. Maybe it’s the old guy in me. They have a vinyl copy of “The King and I” which brings back childhood memories. The music wafting through the small, hidden speakers are neither intrusive nor too loud for anyone’s comfort and the jazzy sounds enhances the feeling of hominess in Mam Boss.
Mam Boss serves delicious food and dessert and their coffee is to die for. They serve coffee in mason jars which adds to the quirkiness of the place.
So what did we have? We tried their Mango crepe and Banoffee pie and downed it with coffee and we left that place with a smile.
They have excellent service. I’m not entirely sure if the woman serving us was the owner but she was extremely accommodating!
So would we recommend this place? Definitely!
Since it’s pretty near SPMC Hospital, it serves as a quick getaway when the need for some respite arises. It’s a good thing they have great coffee and a nice place to hang out in.
Tara Baiii? Tara! Tara! Tara! Tara! Tara!
